How To Remove Jeep Doors AND Keep The Dome Light Turned Off
Shari B. asked about taking Jeep doors off an '04 Wrangler:
How do i get the doors off my wrangler with out tearing them up?
Here's how. It's pretty simple, really.
How To Remove Jeep Doors
These instructions show how we remove the doors from our 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
1. Fold the mirror in (on the outside of the door).
2. Remove the black strap that keeps the door from swinging out too far when you open it.
3. Unscrew the nuts on the bottom of the 2 bolts that hold the door on.
To do that, we use a 13mm socket (or crescent wrench). Just be careful, so you don't scratch the paint off the nuts too much.
4. Carefully lift the door straight up (while holding on tightly to the door). The bolts are actually attached to the top part of the door hinge, so they won't "fall out" or anything.
How To Turn Off The Dome Light
You're going to need one of these: to shut the interior dome light off inside the Jeep (or pull out that particular fuse), otherwise the dome light will stay on in your Jeep whenever the doors are off.

How To Put Jeep Doors Back On
The process of removing the Jeep doors is pretty much a one-person job that only takes a matter of minutes.
However, to put the Jeep doors back on, you might want an extra set of hands to help you line those bolts back up with the hinges.
You simply line up the bottom of the bolts that are still in the door hinges with the tops of the door hinges themselves. This can be a little bit tricky because you have to line it up just right so the bolts in the top and bottom door hinges line up perfectly at the same time.
It's not that hard to do, just takes a little patience.
this is the best website i have found so far on how to take tops and doors off the jeep wrangle.
i have a 09' wrangler sahara, i was wondering how to remove the wires from the door since this jeep has power windows and locks
try putting your nuts back on but just a couple of turns and put your wrench back on then and stryke the wrench with a rubber hammer. That is what i had to do on my 2004 Wrangler X with full doors and it worked. Once you get your doors off take some bearing grease on the hinges to keep them lubed. Be sure and clean and regrease often. Good luck...B
Try putting the nuts on but just a couple turns and put a wrench on the nut and hit it (the wrench) with a rubber hammer and when you get the doors off put some bearing grease on the hinge and that will keep them lubed and easier to remove next time but remember to clean and regrease often
Hey Wade, i have a 2004 Wrangler X and i found that a little bearing grease rubbed on the door hinge (once you get them off) will keep them well lubed but if you wheel in the sand or get real muddy, you need to clean them and regrease...Good luck...B
You guy's need to tug harder, they will come off.

Did you try spraying with WD40? (the door hinges, and maybe even up underneath the bolts would help a bit).
What about something "grippy" to hold onto the bolts? (similar to a rubber can/jar lid opener grippy thing). I'm thinking maybe even a thin latex rubber glove would be enough to help you get a grip on the very stubborn bolts a little better.
This isn't a one-person job -- especially when the hinges & bolts are older and set in their ways. One person should be lifting & tugging one one end of the door, with the other person doing the same on the other end of the door.
Well, that's all I got. Let us know what eventually worked for you :-D
OK, I have an 02 with full doors, I am destroying the paint, the bolts, and everything. They just won't budge, tried everything. Any tips tricks that are different than in a perfect world scenario above. Thanks
...just pulled the doors from my 2004 for the first time. the trick seems to be in pulling up from the proper angle. until i got the correct angle the doors would not budge. try lifting from the front portion of the door (using one hand on the mirror), standing inside the door. Once I found the correct angle they slid off very easy.
tired the wd40 didnt work. any help would be great.
Hey there, im having that same issue and i tried the wd40 and just wont budge its solid, I have an 04 wrangler trail rated version, now I have half doors, does that make a difference?
Try adding some WD40 to the bolt and hinge. That, along with a good tug should work.
I have a 05 wrangler sport, I have never taken the doors off, i tried following this and they wont budge. any suggestions?
YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!! THANKS
