How To Open The Sunrider Top On Your Jeep's Soft Top ... Like A Sun Roof

| Comments (0)

riding-with-the-sundrider-open.jpg Victoria and others have asked how to open the Sunrider portion of the Jeep soft top -- so you're riding around as if you have the sunroof open (rather than lowering the entire soft top on your Jeep).

This is actually something that can be done by one person alone. It only takes me about 4 minutes to do it myself. It's even quicker with 2 people!

Here are the step-by-step instructions for turning your Jeep Wrangler's soft top into a sun roof...

The Best Replacement Jeep Soft Tops

| Comments (0)

jeep-unlimited-sunrider-soft-top.jpg To replace the soft top on our '04 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, it would cost about $1,400 for a MOPAR replacement soft top. That's for the Jeep soft top with the Sunrider (sun roof) built in.

Our next best option would be the Bestop Sunrider Replacement Soft Top for just under $800.

If you've got a Jeep Wrangler and you need a new soft top for your Jeep, there are actually a number of replacement soft tops to choose from.

So let's take a look at what's available in terms of replacement soft tops for Jeep Wranglers...

Best Jeep Window Storage: Clover Patch Travel Cover Stores & Protects Your Jeep's Removable Windows

| Comments (0)

jim-topless-jeep-clover-patch-window-cover.jpg For those times when we have the entire Jeep sunrider soft top down on our 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, we use the Clover Patch Jeep Window Cover.

The reason we like this one best, of all the other Jeep window covers out there, is because the Clover Patch is an all-in-one system -- so everything stays in the Jeep! Yet it's completely out of the way and you don't even notice it's there.

We think it's one of the best inventions ever for Jeeps with removable windows. We like knowing that our Jeep windows won't be getting scratched when they're not being used. Plus, the windows are always within reach, should we need to put the soft top & windows back on in the event of sudden rain storm.

Fun Gift Ideas For People Who Own Jeeps

One of my all-time favorite sites to go to for ordering Jeep stuff online is All Things Jeep.

Check it out. You won't be disappointed. Jean and Norman have a great selection of unique supplies for Jeep owners, including a terrific collection gift ideas for the Jeep lover.

I like their site better than a lot of the other Jeep sites out there because they have a lot of "retro" looking stuff, as well as classic (and classy) modern day gear and attire. Lots of unique stuff, that's for sure!

Here are my personal favorite gift ideas for the Jeeper in your life...

All About Jeep Soft Tops

| Comments (14)

jim-with-jeep-windows-out.jpgMuch to my dismay, we can't ride around in the Jeep with the top down all of the time. Because here in Franklin, Tennessee it gets pretty chilly from October through March each year.

Still, we couldn't be happier with our Jeep(s), and we've had a lot of great times -- top up and top down -- in both... our 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ... and our 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited TJ.

Here's a run-down of all of the things you need to consider if your Jeep has a soft top...

How To Protect Your Jeep Windows After Cleaning

Jim zipping the Jeep's plastic windows back into place. After your clean the plastic windows on your Jeep's soft top, you should immediately go through the simple process of protecting them.

In effect, you're locking in the window's own natural oils and adding an extra barrier of protection from the sun's harmful rays and other environmental effects (dust, dirt, pollen, etc.) that can impact the life of your soft top and windows.

Here are the best products for protecting your Jeep windows...

Our two Jeep Wranglers... a 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ and a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited TJ.If you own a Jeep (we've owned 3), especially a Jeep Wrangler (we've owned 2), then you already know the appearance of the soft top and windows plays a large part in determining how good your Jeep looks... and how it will look for years to come.

How to Prolong The Life of Your Plastic Jeep Windows

Plastic jeep windows. When you buy a Jeep with a soft top, you have one more thing to add to your regular maintenance schedule:

Cleaning & protecting your soft top
and windows

How often?

Any time you can visibly see dirt accumulated on your vinyl windows, you should wash them.

It is important to take every precaution to protect your soft top and vinyl/plastic windows -- if you want them to last a long time without cracking, scratching, fading, yellowing, or fogging.

Think of it this way:
Vinyl is a man-made material with natural oils in it. That's what keeps your windows supple and quite flexible. Once the natural oils dry out, the vinyl goes downhill quickly and begins to fade and crack. Scratches are usually the first sign of aged plastic or vinyl Jeep windows. Next comes fogging and/or yellowing. Then cracking.

WARNING: How To Remove Snow & Ice From Vinyl or Plastic Jeep Windows

Jim pulling in the driveway after a cold ride home with the soft-top down... in our 'old' 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ. We are preparing for our first Winter with a Jeep Wrangler soft top. No, staying warm will not be the problem... the heater works GREAT!

What's troubling me most at this point is how to remove snow and ice from the vinyl/plastic windows of our soft top when we drive from Tennessee to Ohio (and Indiana) for the holidays. (Our other Jeep had a hard top. This one does not.)

Our 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited... preparing for its first winter. Our 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ... it had a hard top.

I learned a couple valuable lessons today that other Jeep owners might find helpful...

Quick-Change Locations & Tips For Putting Your Jeep Soft Top Or Convertible Top Up In The Rain

| Comments (6)
How to go from "riding-in-a-convertible-while-dodging- the-rain" to "top-up" in a flash... while staying dry in the process!

Riding in the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the Sunrider top open... notice the black strap 'securing' the arms in place? I took the Jeep out for a spin this morning (with the Sunrider top down, and the back window rolled up & out of the way), and I got caught in a sudden rain storm.

Oh sure, I saw the skies darkening, but I only had "one more place to go" before I'd be back home -- then the Jeep would be parked safe and dry in my garage.

Wrong! Today's rain storm almost got the best of me...

When to NOT Go Topless

Well... There comes a point in time when one just has to admit that summer is over and fall is on its way. Lynnette just can't bring herself to do it.

It's a well known fact that public pools close after Labor Day. I thought that would / should be a clue for Lynnette and me to put the hardtop back on Scruffy.
