Geocaching Offroad With A 4x4 Vehicle And A GPS

offroad-geocaching-by-roman-jr.jpg When it comes to geocaching, you can go the safe and easy route, or you can choose the more adventurous route.  Both are quite fun, but for us, the best part of geocaching is the journey to and from the cache location itself, so the more adventurous the better! Usually that means venturing off the beaten path in search of caches hidden in some of the most remote locations.

These caches can often be quite challenging to find -- even with the help of a GPS! And, if you're a seeker of the most "challenging" caches, then you'll want to be sure you have the right wheels beneath you to get you there and back safely.

Following are some tips for geocaching offroad with your 4x4.

New Jeep Lift Kit & Tires: Before And After

Well, it's been a month now since we got a 3-inch lift kit and new tires for our 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

jeep-lift-kit-from-4wheelparts.jpg We ordered everything from the 4WheelParts store in Nashville ...which took a long time. The lift kit was setting in our foyer for weeks before the wheels arrived at the Nashville store. Then the tires took even longer for some reason.

That said, it was the best thing we ever did for the Jeep!

Here's the scoop.

But first, some before (top row) & after (bottom row) shots:

Geocaching: The Act Of Hiding (And Finding) Hidden Treasures... With (Or Without) A Jeep!

geocache-with-gps-and-log-book-by-dream4akeem.jpg One of the more fun (and unique) things that we do with our Jeep is called Geocaching. But the truth is, you don't need a Jeep at all. You just need a handheld GPS device (or a cellphone with GPS enabled).

You see, there are caches (bundles of fun freebies) hidden all across the world just waiting to be found by everyday people like you and me.

The adventure comes in the lengths that you will go to find them. Some are hidden in parking lots, on main roads, and in fairly obvious and easy-to-get-to locations. Others vary in the degree to which they are "off the beaten path".

So no matter what your level of adventure is, there's a hidden cache that you will enjoy finding.  And for those who enjoy puzzles, you'll appreciate the fact that many of the hidden caches can only be "found" by deciphering some simple code, puzzle, or clues first.

Play The Jeep Geocaching Game Online

Last year, Jeep had a fun contest where they hid Jeep Travel Bugs all across the U.S. and with the aid of a GPS, you could participate in their game to win fun prizes.

This year, there's no such game (yet), but they do have an online version of Jeep geocaching that they're letting people download and play for free.
